Babywearing 101 - Wraps

I personally love wraps. With my first child I started with a stretchy wrap and it got a lot of mileage! As my journey into babywearing progressed I transitioned to gauze and finally woven wraps.
There are three kinds of baby wraps available: stretchy wraps, gauze wraps and woven wraps.
Stretchy Wraps
Stretchy wraps are great for new babywearers to learn on as they are easy to tighten, you can pre-tie them and pop baby in and they have a lower price point compared to woven wraps.  Most stretchy wraps are designed for front carries only.  Wrapsody hybrid wraps are designed differently then your average stretchy wrap which allows them to be safe for back carriers as well as front carries.
Here is a photo of my daughter on my back in my Wrapsody Hybrid.
Great things about stretchy wraps:
  • Easily washable (a little spit up can be easily washed away ;) )
  • You can pre-tie the wrap and pop baby in and out
  • Very soft and cuddly for a new baby
Gauze Wraps
Gauze wraps are great for both new and experienced babywearers.  The advantage of gauze wraps is that they are very thin and breathable which makes them a great choice for hot and humid weather.  Gauze wraps are safe for doing both front and back carries.
Great things about gauze wraps:
  • Easily washable (a little spit up can be easily washed away ;) )
  • Thin and breathable for hot weather
  • Safe for front and back carries
Woven Wraps
Woven wraps are great for babies from birth to toddlerhood and beyond.  The great thing about woven wraps are that there are so many choices.  Woven wraps come in sizes as small as 2.7m and go all they way to 5.2m and beyond.  The reason for many different sizes is the amount of different carries that you can do with each one.  For the average person doing a basic front carry generally a size 6 (4.6m) is the perfect size.  Size up if you are a larger than average person and down if you are more petite.
Great things about woven wraps:
  • Easily washable (a little spit up can be easily washed away ;) )
  • Safe for front and back carries
  • Great for both newborns and toddlers.
